DIVA Training
This year, as part of DIVA Day, we are offering a series of half-day workshops to teach daylight and energy simulations in DIVA-Rhino and DIVA-Grasshopper to new and advanced users. For example, if you have not done any daylight simulations in the past and you are unfamiliar with Rhino, the Introduction to Daylight Simulations in DIVA (Rhino-based) might be good for you. If you have some experience in daylight simulations but you are unfamiliar with parametric modeling in Grasshopper, the Introduction to Parametric Daylighting and Energy Simulations in DIVA (Grasshopper-based) may be your first choice for the morning. The two afternoon session allow you to either dig deeper into how to model advanced, dynamic facades in DIVA or how to build more complicated parametric models in Grasshopper. Saturday’s session in HDR Photography will be an excellent introduction or refresher in HDR Photography and Image-based analysis. When in doubt regarding what classes to pick, please contact Kera Lagios at kera@solemma.net.
Laptop and software requirements
Participants should come prepared with laptops and the required software installed before class begins.

Course Schedule
Thursday, 9am- noon |
101 Introduction to Daylight Simulation in DIVA Level: No skills required. Instructor: Christoph Reinhart This course is specifically geared towards helping designers and sustainability consultants to learn the basic theory underlying daylight simulations and how to integrate such simulations within their practice. This is a hands-on class in which participants will learn how to conduct a series of simulation exercises on their Windows laptops using the DIVA for Rhino plug-in for Radiance and Daysim. These exercises include: - Point in time visualization in Radiance - Daylight Factor and illuminance distribution for LEED v3 compliance - Radiation Maps - Spatial Daylight Autonomy and Annual Solar Exposure calculation for LEED v4 compliance

|
201 Introduction to Parametric Daylighting and Energy Simulations in DIVA Level: Basic knowledge of daylight simulations. No previous Grasshopper knowledge required. Instructor: Jeff Niemasz
This course introduces designers to DIVA simulations using Grasshopper, a visual scripting plug in for Rhino. Through guided hands-on exercises, participants will learn the basics skills and strategies for developing parametric daylight and energy models.

Thursday, 1- 4pm |
102 Dynamic Facades in DIVA Level: Basic knowledge of daylight simulations based on morning session or equivalent. No Grasshopper skills required. Instructors: Alstan Jakubiec and Kera Lagios
In this course attendees will learn how to use the shading, lighting, and annual glare modules in DIVA, separately and in concert, to perform annual daylighting analysis. At the end of the session, attendees will be able to:
- Generate shading and lighting schedules. - Run point-in-time and annual visual comfort and glare simulations - Incorporate dynamic controls into a cohesive annual daylighting performance analysis
Participants should be familiar with Rhino and DIVA, or have taken the morning session "Introduction to Daylight Simulation in DIVA" with Christoph. |
|
202 Advanced Parametric Simulation Concepts in DIVA Level: Basic knowledge of daylight and energy simulations. Basic Grasshopper skills based on morning session or otherwise. Instructors: Timur Dogan and Jon Sargent
This course covers advanced concepts in parametric daylighting and energy analysis. Using new release components in Grasshopper, participants will learn to: - Construct and manipulate multi-zone energy models. - Control shading and lighting schedules using Radiance-based methods. - Parameterize model geometry, materials, and building controls. - Launch parametric analyses and harvest simulation results. - Design and simulate photovoltaics
