Diva for sDA Analysis: different results for “Room by Room” or “Multi Room” Analysis.

Hi,

I am having consistency issues while looking at Daylighting Results in Rhino, using Diva.

For a building, two regularly occupied rooms were analyzed using the LEED v4 and sDA analysis in DIVA (300lx for 50% of time in all regularly occupied spaces). With all settings equal, three analyses were run:

  1. Both room have nodes active. (sDA = 43.5%, ASE = 46.6%)
  2. Room #1 has nodes active. (sDA = 47.7%, ASE = 41.4%)
  3. Room #2 has nodes active. (sDA = 100%, ASE = 57.8%)

The results from A were different than B and C, even though the rooms are the same and the tests are the same. The average of B and C does not equal A, and visually the tests do not look similar.

Another colleague has presented a solution...

I was not aware not when running the LEED v4 and sDA analysis, the model automatically assumes geometric shades in the simulations even if you don't put them in (I was assigning conceptual shading out of rough direction, not knowledge of the full process).

Since I had some very bright rooms, it assumed the "shades" would be brought down often. Since I only had one control group, it brought all shades down at once, causing my already dimmer rooms to become even darker.

Creating different node control groups for different parts of the building solved my issue completely.
