Hi,

I'm using DIVA 4.0 to study the impact of road albedo on building energy consumption. I used the radiation map for simulating solar radiations on buildings reflected from road, and used the thermal component in Archsim to calculate the cooling and heating loads (in previous version of DIVA I have used Viper directly). Since thermal calculation is now separated from DIVA, I was wondering if the solar radiations from DIVA were used as inputs for thermal simulations? If not, does Archsim takes the radiation from weather file? Is it possible to integrate DIVA solar outputs into Archsim thermal calculations?

Thanks,

Stella

Hello Stella,

Apologies for the very late reply.

I think the only thing you can do in this situation is to modify the ground reflectance in Archsim. This is set in the advanced tab of the 'Run EnergyPlus' component. DIVA's solar outputs don't go into Archsim's thermal calculations in that manner. The only thing that can be shared between the two are schedules such as occupancy, electric lighting, and shading state.

Best,

Alstan

Hello Alstan,

Thanks for your reply. From your paper, http://ibpsa.org/proceedings/BS2011/P_1701.pdf, I actually found that exterior ground reflectance was taken into account in calculating diffuse and direct luminance incident on window and enter a space (Table 1). One thing I found interesting is that in DIVA 3, if I change the ground reflectance in DIVA I do see changes in cooling and heating loads. What do you think is driving these changes then?

Regards,

Xin
