Hi all,

I'm having trouble with rendering a realistic picture of a wine glass.

I have seen a lot of realistic renders of glasses made with RADIANCE, but I'm having trouble achieving the same result myself. The problem with the render is the sharpness of the glass and especially shadow of the glass. The shadow is the same as the shadow from any solid material and it should be much more transparent. I was hoping to get a very detailed picture of the glass where it is visible how the light goes through the glass.

Below is the pictur with the following material and radiance parameters:

-ps 8 -pt .15 -pj .6 -dj 0 -ds .5 -dt .5 -dc .25 -dr 0 -dp 128 -st 0.5 -ab 1 -aa .08 -ar 5000 -ad 128 -as 64 -lr 8 -lw 0

void dielectric crystal
0
0
5 1 1 1 1.4 0

And here is another example:

-ps 8 -pt .15 -pj .6 -dj 0 -ds .5 -dt .5 -dc .25 -dr 0 -dp 128 -st 0.5 -ab 3 -aa .1 -ar 2000 -ad 1024 -as 512 -lr 4 -lw .05

void dielectric crystal
0
0
5 .5 .5 .5 1.5 0

As you can see, I think I've tried everything and much more than the to examples posted above. I've also tried with a much higher -ad and -as. Maybe there is an expert out there who can help me with which of the parameters are most important for this situation? I'm thinking that there may be a barrier with the DIVA-implementation in Rhino, as it seemes like some information in the calculation is missing or something.

I hope to hear from you guys.

All the best,

Lasse Knudsen

Hi Lasse,

Could you share an archive of your temporary Radiance files directory from C:\DIVA\Temp\RhinoFileName\. I have some thoughts on this, but none that I am hugely confident in being correct. If you can't upload it to the forum, via e-mail to alstan@solemma.net is fine.

Best,

Alstan

Hi,

Thank you very much for looking into my problem. I've sent you the file as it is too big for upload.

Hi again Alstan,

As you wrote to me on email, you suspected the -lw-factor to be the barrier.

Now, I have tried to lower the value to both 0 (in the example) and to a very low value of 0.001 and it didn't improve the result. Just wanted to let you know.

Maybe you have another explanation, or a greater expertise on how to combine the parameters? :-)

All the best,

Lasse
