In preparation for DIVA Day 2014, we are pleased to announce the alpha release of DIVA version 3.0! With this update, DIVA supports the new LEED v4 metric via IES-LM-83's sDA metric. Also electric lighting is coming to DIVA with the ability to load in and position measured electric lighting data via IES files in the DIVA GUI. Please read the information below, and then feel free to try it out. Even if your DIVA-2.0 trial is expired, you can try DIVA-3.0.
It is recommended to simply rename your existing C:\DIVA\ folder to something such as C:\DIVA-2.0\ before installing the alpha. That way if you want to go back to DIVA-2.0, all you need to do is delete the 3.0 DIVA folder and rename the 2.0 folder back to C:\DIVA\. The installation comes with a license valid until Oct 15 2014 (two weeks after DIVA Day 2014). Existing DIVA-2.0 permanent and student licenses will not work with the alpha version.
sDA + ASE / LEED v4
DIVA finally supports the IES-LM-83 sDA and ASE metrics for the LEEDv4 daylight credit as well as standalone simulations and visualizations of the two metrics. The new sDA / ASE calculations are accessed from the Nodes > Climate-Based selection from the Metrics menu. Upon running a sDA or LEEDv4 metric, you will be prompted to set control groups. In the two examples below, there are 8: one for each space or room. The sDA calculations close window shades using the conceptual Daysim methodology (0% of direct transmittance, 25% of diffuse transmittance) whenever more than 2% of the floor area of a control group has direct sunlight over 1000 lx present. The ASE calculations are made using a 0 ambient bounce calculation only, accounting for direct sunlight.
Loading IES files into DIVA for electric lighting analysis
Clicking Materials > Load IES File will prompt you to select an IES file from somewhere on your computer. Upon doing so, DIVA will create a block on a special Luminaires layer. You can copy, rotate, and translate geometry on this layer (but not scale or mirror!) and it will show up in point-in-time calculations such as grid-based illuminance and visualizations. To see only the contribution of electric lighting, set the hour time to something in the middle of the night such as 23h.
Bug fixes which will also be applied to DIVA-2.0 after testing
- Exterior conditions in DIVA-Thermal calculations corrected (sometimes floors would have outside air rather than group as their exterior condition).
- Added conversions for ton-hrs of cooling in DIVA-Thermal calculations. Sometimes this would result in seemingly very low cooling results on graphs.
- Daylight factor values can be displayed as decimal points now.
- Updated Radiance to the latest 4.2 version.
